Moonstone is typically
a potassium aluminum silicate. The shimmer of light makes moonstone very
special, fascinating, amazing and astonishing in world of gemstones. This
phenomenon is 'adularisation' and thats why moonstone has been known as "adularescence"
also. |
The cause of this "adularescence"
is the inner crystal structure of moonstone. The potassium aluminum
silicates are arranged in thin layers. Incident light rays are refracted and
scattered in the stone and their interference produces an unique light
effect. which makes the moonstone so distinctive and so desirable. The most
desirable color of this schiller regarded is blue, which usually occurs in a
white or grey body color. If the layers are too thick this schiller appears
whitish which is less attractive. |

moonstones moonstones, come from Sri Lanka, are rare and highly priced also.
For a few years, there have also been some green, brown, smoky, champagne,
reddish and orange specimens on the market, mainly originating from India.
