Labradorite is a feldspar mineral, found mostly in
Paul's Island near the town of Nain in Labrador, Canada. The particularly
brightly colored variety of Labradorite found in Finland and is sometimes
known as spectrolite also. |
The ground color of Labradorite is a dark smoke gray
but when light strikes it in a particular direction, it displays striking
rainbow-colored reflections (violet, blue, green, yellow, and even orange
and reddish) known as labradorescence. This effect is probably caused by
light on twinned lamellae. This rystal twinning occurs when two separate
crystals share some of the same crystal lattice points in a symmetrical
manner. The result is an intergrowth of two separate crystals in a variety
of specific configurations. A twin boundary or composition surface separates
the two crystals. |
This the most distinctive feature, iridescence against
a dark background gives the labradorite its value and makes it outstanding
among the other semiprecious stones. Labradorite is cut into gems, or small,
not too convex, polished plaques for setting and is also used for carving
and engraving any ornamental material. |
Labradorite can be
shaped into any beads, Labradorite round beads, Labradorite oval beads,
Labradorite flat oval beads, Labradorite Buttons, Labradorite drops,
Labradorite
tube beads, Labradorite pear beads, Labradorite nuggets, Labradorite tumblers,
Labradorite roughs, Labradorite roundel, Labradorite uncut, Labradorite tire are
the common beads for jewelries. |
Apart from these regular shapes Labradorite faceted tumbler and Labradorite
faceted ovals, Labradorite faceted chewing gums, Labradorite faceted coins and
Labradorite faceted drops, Labradorite faceted heart, Labradorite faceted briolette
have more spectacular, striking and sparkling luster. |
